Rummy is legally recognised as a game of skill in most of India, but real-money play still involves financial risk — and for some players it can become a problem. This page is the most important one on our site.
The basics
- 18+ only. No real-money platform may accept minors, and neither should you let them play on your account.
- Set a deposit limit before your first game, not after a losing session. Most major apps support deposit limits in settings.
- Never chase losses. A losing session is the cost of entertainment, not a debt to be recovered.
- Play with money you can afford to lose. Never with rent, EMIs, or borrowed money.
State restrictions
Real-money rummy is restricted or banned in some Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Odisha, Nagaland and Sikkim (rules change — verify your state's current law). Apps geo-block restricted states, and playing via VPN can forfeit your winnings and your KYC.
Warning signs
- Playing with money meant for essentials
- Hiding your play or losses from family
- Borrowing to deposit, or depositing immediately after every loss
- Feeling restless or irritable when not playing
